Soucek: a useless, lumbering, beanpole. Why pick him?
Amid the wreckage of last night's drubbing, we could highlight a lot.

Point is, as horribly shit as most of our players performed, at least they served a purpose and attempted to fulfil it.

But sitting in the stands last night watching Soucek - what is the point of him?

I watched him for a period: he can't run. He can't pass. He can't even close down. He barely puts a tackle.

He made eight passes last night and squandered half of them. A centre midfielder.

Flynn Downes at least moves with some speed and recycles the ball. He's not Patrick Vierra - but, he's infinitely better than Soucek.

Please someone explain: Why does Moyes keep picking this useless, lumbering beanpole?

Think it's unfair to judge Downes / Ings/ Fornals when there are so many changes. I would like to see Downes given a run of games in his preferred position. Let him screen the defence, let Rice do the biz box to box and Paqueta to play as a proper 10.

How fucking shit was Downes yesterday btw.

You can see why Soucek continuously gets the nod ahead of him.

better tonight from a low base but was knocked unconscious at one point and moyes still wouldn't sub him. Think moyes would still have kept him on in that golf cart

Paqueta - Rice - Soucek

Moyes knew.

See that header today from Soucek.

Not many players other than him would have won that ball and prevented an equaliser

Like the way he set up Rice for the 3rd today - clearly a well-rehearsed training ground move. Still don't think he should be starting ahead of Fornals and Downes.

Re: Soucek: a useless, lumbering, beanpole. Why pick him?
I noticed something about Soucek today. When the opposition have the ball he's always loitering in the general area of where they would most like to pass it. So they have to take a sub-optimal route. This is probably why Moyes picks him through thick and thin.
Now, Rado Kovac used to do this as well, but, sadly, pretty much nothing else. In the past few games, perhaps helped by Paqueta's increased physicality, Soucek has started to do some of the other good stuff as well and is starting to vaguely resemble the player we liked so much.

I could be wrong - I hope I'm not.

CAPTAIN Soucek!

IMO was better once he put the arm band on last night...almost like without Rice there he suddenly knew what his job was, and was in faces and trying to make some of the play. Downes sat deeper, Paqueta sat higher, and Soucek filled in in-between.

35 passes last night - 2 more than Rice (according to Opta).

fornals is another constantly mismanaged by the twat in charge. never a winger (defensive or attacking), yet that seems to be the only option he has when getting minutes. what's bizarre is jimmy would be ideal for the role he's asked soucek to fill. the man holds players back, and it's why I'm reluctant to write off anyone that legs haven't gone

I know he's rightly taken a load of flak this season as his performances have been so poor but if we got him back to something near his best that would be a bonus for the rest of the season as Moyes still seems intent in playing him in spite of his form..

I've heard conflicting views that he played well last night and yhat he was his usual useless self... haven't seen the game or his stats which view is closer to the truth?
